SHIELD of Dreams - Social Recreation Program |
Why we do what we doOur Social Recreation Program was developed as a natural extension of our work supporting individuals in building Independent Living Skills (ILS). We recognized that significant growth happens when those skills are practiced in real-world environments, alongside others, in fun, engaging and purposeful ways. That’s why we create opportunities for individuals to connect, participate, and build confidence through a variety of community-based activities aligned with their interests. Through shared experiences and guided support, participants strengthen communication, decision-making, and social awareness — all while becoming more comfortable navigating everyday situations. | Community-based activities that promote: INDEPENDENCE CONNECTION REAL-WORLD ENGAGEMENT |
OUR COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY EXCELLENCE
We believe true independence is grown in the heart of the community. Our Social Recreation Program is built on the foundation of Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) compliance. We ensure that every participant enjoys the same experiences, choices, and independence as any other member of the neighborhood.
Community Integration Our activities take place in "real-world," non-disability-specific settings. Whether it’s a local restaurant, a public park, or a community event, we ensure our participants are where the action is—fully integrated into the local culture.
Privacy & Dignity
Every person deserves respect. We facilitate our services in a way that protects the individual’s privacy and independence, fostering an environment where participants feel empowered and valued. | Individual Choice We respect the agency of every participant. Our members have the autonomy to choose the activities that interest them and the people they want to interact with. We move away from "one-size-fits-all" schedules to focus on personal preference. Full Community Access Our goal is to break down barriers. We support each individual’s ability to engage with our community and its surroundings—whether through recreation, volunteering, or social networking. |
